Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids posted their biggest victory of the season defeating the New York Red Bulls 4-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Saturday night.
With the win, the Rapids sweep the season series from the Red Bulls for the second straight year and keep New York still winless in road contests this season.
Colorado found goals from four different players as the home side scored in the opening minutes of the game and added three more goals in the second half.
Jacob Peterson tallied his second goal of the season in the 5th minute streaking pass the New York defense and finishing off Omar Cummings' delivery across the face of the goal.
New York placed themselves in a tough situation for a comeback when Sinisa Ubiparipovic received a red card ejection in stoppage time following his tackle on Scott Palguta.
Pat Noonan recorded his first goal as a member of the Rapids in the first minute of the second half taking a feed from Pablo Mastroeni and netting it to the right corner.
Nick LaBrocca and Mehdi Ballouchy rounded out the scoring for the Rapids in the 61st and 67th minutes respectively.
LaBrocca tapped in a rebound shot from Ballouchy following a save from Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul, while Ballouchy scored on a free kick that rocketed pass Coundoul to the right side netting of the goal.
Colorado defeated New York in similar fashion last season at home handing the Red Bulls a 4-0 loss on July 4, 2008. The Rapids have outscored New York 16 to 6 in their last four match-ups.
The Rapids play the second match of a three-game home stand next week when they host the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew on Saturday, August 1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 7:30 pm MT.
