Colorado Rapids News Release

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. - The Colorado Rapids acquired Generation adidas defender Rob Valentino in a trade with the New England Revolution, the club announced today.

In exchange, Colorado sent Generation adidas midfielder Nico Colaluca to New England.

Valentino joins the Rapids after being drafted by the Revolution in the first round (13th overall) in the 2008 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Last season, he started in nine Reserve Division matches, as well as earning starts in all three of New England's U.S. Open Cup matches and a substitute appearance against Joe Public FC in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Originally selected by the Rapids in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, Colaluca appeared in four games for Colorado all during his rookie campaign. He also played in 18 Reserve Division matches for the Rapids during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, recording five goals and was a member of the Colorado's 2007 MLS Reserve Division championship team.

The Rapids (3-2-2, third in the Western Conference) have a bye from MLS play this week, but will return to action on Saturday, May 16 when they travel to face Valentino's old side, the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium at 5:30 pm MT.
