COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Tuesday, April 1, 2014)ÃÂ - Colorado Rapids Academy defender Quentin Pearson has been selected to the United States Under-18 National Team for a training camp in Carson, Calif., which will run from April 4-13. Pearson has become a regular with the U.S. U-18's, and this is his second camp with the team in 2014.
"This is another recognition of Quentin's development, and shows how hard he has worked in recent months," said Brian Crookham, the Rapids Senior Director of Youth Development. "The last two weeks he has played strongly with the Rapids Reserves, and we're thrilled that he has another opportunity to impress the national team staff."
U.S. U-18 head coach Javier Perez selected the 24 players for the roster, and will bring the group together at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson. The camp is the first gathering of the U.S. U-18 MNT since it competed at the Copa del Atlantico in the Canary Islands in February, and the team will next convene at the end of May for the Lisbon International Tournament in Lisbon, Portugal.
Pearson earned his last call-up to the U.S. U-18's in September 2013, having previously been with the U.S. U-15 and U-17 teams for training camps. The defender was a key part of the Rapids' Under-16 Team's successful 2012-13 season in the Development Academy, when the team finished third out of the top 80 youth clubs around the country, and has been playing with the Rapids U-18 Team in 2013-14.
The Rapids first team will visit Canada for the next two weekends, facing Vancouver Whitecaps FC this Saturday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m. MT and Toronto FC on Saturday, April 12 at 2 p.m. MT, with both matches broadcast live on Altitude TV. Colorado's next home game is Saturday, April 19 against the San Jose Earthquakes at 4 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
