Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - In conjunction with Hockey Canada, Tri-City Americans' General Manager/Governor Bob Tory announced today that forward Connor Rankin will attend Hockey Canada's U18 Summer Selection Camp, to be held July 30 to August 2 in Calgary, Alberta.
Rankin will join 14 other WHL players and is one of 42 players invited to attend the four-day long camp. The players, born in 1994, were selected by Hockey Canada head scout Kevin Prendergast, in consultation with head coach Steve Spott (Kitchener, OHL) and assistant coaches Mario Duhamel (Drummondville, QMJHL) and Don Nachbaur (Spokane, WHL). Prendergast evaluated the players over the course of the 2010-11 season, following them along with numerous other candidates for the program during league play, as well as during the 2011 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
Rankin had an impressive rookie season with Tri-City, appearing in 70 regular season games while amassing 19 goals and 44 points along with a plus-13 rating. Rankin also played in all 10 of the Americans' post-season games, totaling one goal and four points. The 16-year-old center from North Vancouver, British Columbia finished his first WHL season 8th on the WHL Rookie Scoring list, the only 16-year-old in the top-8, while earning the Americans' 2010-11 Rookie of the Year Award. In 2009, Tri-City made a draft-day deal with Prince George to trade up and select Rankin with the 7th overall pick in the Bantam Draft.
Of the 42 players who have been identified for the selection camp, 22 will be selected for Canada's National Men's Summer U-18 Team, which will play in the 2011 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament, scheduled for August 8-13 in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
Tri-City Americans season ticket plans are now available for the 2011-12 season. Season ticket plans can be purchased by using several, convenient monthly payment schedules after a one-time service charge.
