
Rangers Travel to Flint for First Road Game of the Season

Flint, MI - The Kitchener Rangers face off against the Flint Firebirds at the Dort Financial Center in Flint on Saturday, September 30th. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.

Head- to- Head:
Saturday's meeting will be the first of four meetings between these two clubs this season. The Rangers hold an 8-8-3-1 advantage over the Firebirds over the past five seasons. The Firebirds lost to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in their season opener on September 29th by a score of 11-3. The Rangers came out on top in their home opener against Saginaw winning with just over two minutes remaining in the game for a final score of 4-3. The Rangers' best campaign against the Firebirds was in the 2018-19 season with a record of 3-1-0-0 against them.
Scouting the Rangers:
In the Rangers 4-3 home opening win against Saginaw, nine different players got onto the scoresheet with a point. Kyle Morey and Senators prospect Matthew Andonovski lit the lamp for the first time in their OHL careers. Antonio Pugliese grabbed the deciding goal and tallied an assist. This marked Pugliese's first game back since February 26th, 2023, after missing some time for an injury. Veteran Mitchell Martin picked up where he left off last season recording two points (1G, 1A) in the contest. Jackson Parsons suited up on opening night and stopped 31 of 34 shots required of him.
The Rangers have four players drafted to the NHL on their 2023-24 roster, Carson Rehkopf (Seattle), Hunter Brzustewicz (Vancouver), and Matthew Andonovski (Ottawa) were all selected in the 2023 draft. Tomas Hamara was drafted and signed by Ottawa in 2022.
Scouting the Firebirds:
Flint announced on September 26th that Zacharie Giroux is the new Capitan of the Firebirds. First-year Firebird Jeremy Martin was the first onto the board against the Soo on their opening night, Kaden Pitre and Daks Klinkhammer also recorded goals in the game. Goaltender Nathan Day started against the Soo last night but was replaced by Jacob Brown after 24 minutes of play.
The Firebirds have five NHL Draft picks on their 2023-24 roster, Tristan Bertucci (Dallas), Coulson Pitre (Anaheim), Nathan Day (Edmonton), and Ethan Hay (Tampa Bay) were all drafted in 2023. Tristan Bertucci (Dallas) and Gavin Hayes (Chicago) were selected in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Next Up:
The Rangers have a busy week ahead as they will continue on the road on Wednesday, October 4th against the Sarnia Sting at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena, puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. Kitchener arrives back home on Friday, October 6th to face the Owen Sound Attack at 7:00 p.m. game time. To finish the week off, the Rangers will then travel to Saginaw for the season's second meeting on Saturday, October 7th.
