August 27, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Kitchener Rangers held their first two intersquad games of Training Camp at the Aud on Tuesday, with Team White winning both games over Team Blue; 5-2 in Game #1Â and 5-4 (SO) in Game #2.
Game #1 on Tuesday morning saw Team White score four unanswered goals to end their first victory of the day. After Riley Damiani and Isaac Langdon gave Team Blue leads of 1-0 and 2-1, respectively, rookie Francesco Pinelli would bookend a Simon Motew goal with two of his own to help his team turn the corner.
Declan McDonnell potted a rebound into the back of the net with 14 seconds left in regulation to secure the three-goal victory.
Game #2 on Tuesday night saw a bit of a back-and-forth affair, as Team Blue battled back from a 3-1 deficit to take a 4-3 lead before ultimately falling 5-4 after losing a shootout.
Justin MacPherson opened the scoring for Team Blue, but the Pinelli brothers - Francesco followed by Anthony - gave Team White a 2-1 lead with less than two minutes remaining in the first period.
Greg Meireles boosted Team White's lead to 3-1 in the second, but it was short-lived as Reid Valade got Team Blue back within one just 1:07 later.
With under a minute left in the middle frame, Ryan Stepien found the back of the net to tie it at three.
Stepien's second of the game with 14:41 left in the third period would give Team Blue their first lead since the start, but Jonathan Yantsis evened the score once more with 11:37 to go.
After the remaining portion of regulation ended in a stalemate, the teams went to a shootout - which Team White would ultimately win 4-3 on Anthony Pinelli's tally.
The final intersquad game of Training Camp is scheduled for Wednesday August 28th at 10am at The Aud and is open to the public to attend, free of charge.
