Kitchener Rangers News Release

Kitchener, Ont. - Owen Sound netminder Carter George stole the show making 48 stops on 50 Ranger shots to lead the Attack to a 3-2 overtime victory over in front of 6,410 fans at The Aud Friday night. The Rangers fought back twice from down a goal, but Colby Barlow scored on a nice solo effort in overtime to seal the Rangers fate tonight.

The teams played to a scoreless first period. Both teams had opportunities on the man-advantage, but the best chance of the period came when the Rangers were shorthanded. A 2-on-1, turned 2-on-0 for the Rangers, was stopped on a cross-crease save by Carter George in tight. Shots favoured the Rangers 14-9 through 20.

Owen Sound cashed-in on their second power-play attempt of the night to open the scoring in the game. At 3:07 of the second period, a slot-shot missed wide and bounced back out front for Matthew Papais to deposit the puck into the empty cage. Kitchener outshot the Attack 28-19 through 40 minutes of play, but it was Owen Sound who had the 1-0 lead.

The Rangers ramped it up in the third period as they outshot the Attack 21-8 looking to even up the game. At 12:05, Francesco Arcuri (Dallas Stars) finally got one past the Owen Sound netminder to tie the game at 1-1. A Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) shot was directed through the five-hole of George to put the Rangers on the board.

Owen Sound responded 1:37 after the Ranger goal to regain the one-goal advantage. Deni Goure muscled his way through a couple Rangers to steal the bouncing puck and lift a shot over the glove of Marco Costantini in tight. Kitchener fought hard to tie the game back up 2-2 with 4:30 left in the game. Danny Zhilkin (Winnipeg Jets) deflected a point shot from Hunter Brzustewicz for his 22nd goal of the season.

The score was not settled after 60 minutes and needed overtime. Shots favoured the Rangers 49-27, and the score was knotted at 2-2.

In the extra frame, Colby Barlow curled and dragged the puck around the stick of the Ranger defender and fired the puck into the top right corner to give Owen Sound the overtime victory just 1:16 into the extra period. Final shots ended 50-28 in favour of the Blueshirts. Kitchener finished the game 0-for-3 on the power-play and 4-for-5 on the power-play. Lleyton Moore earned the game's third star recording one assist.
