
Rangers Open With 7-1 Victory

The weather didn't stop thousands of Rangers fans from attending the 12th Annual Fanfest BBQ in support of The Children's Wish Foundation. The event kicked of the 2009-10 Kitchener Rangers season.
Rangers Rookie Ben Thomson scored two goals in his OHL debut en-route to a 7-1 victory over the Brampton Battalion.
The Battalion's Sean Jones opened scoring at the 4:03 mark in the first period to give Brampton a 1-0 lead. Jason Akeson replied with a one-timer from his off-side at the 11:56 mark to level out the score.
Thomson picked up a rebound at the edge of the crease to put Kitchener up 2-1 at the 11:12 mark of the second period. Jeff Skinner added a goal at 14:31 to end period scoring 3-1, Rangers advantage.
Michael Cattenacci netted an early goal in the third period followed by Skinner's second goal of the game at the 7:40 mark. Thompson also scored his second goal midway through the third period to give the Rangers a five goal lead. Charlie Dodero closed out scoring in the game at the 15 minute mark.
Brandon Maxwell started in goal for the Rangers turning aside 20 of 21 shots. Mike Morrison went in midway through the second period.
The Rangers depart for Rouyn- Noranda on September 4th for two exhibition games. They will return to play in Brampton on September 7th at 2pm. The Rangers next home exhibition game is Friday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m. vs. Oshawa.
