Kitchener Rangers News Release

Two goal games from Max Iafrate and Ryan MacInnis propelled the Kitchener Rangers to an 8-1 win over the London Knights on Thursday night. Brandon Robinson and David Miller each recorded three points in the win, the Rangers third straight victory.

The Rangers took an early 1-0 lead, opening the scoring just over four minutes in. Import forward Gustaf Franzen collected a loose puck in front of London starter Tyler Parsons and swept a shot behind his pads to collect his 15th of the season, and his sixth point in the series with the Knights. Defenceman Frank Hora earned the lone assist, his fourth point in two games.

Max Iafrate lifted Kitchener to a two goal advantage with five minutes to play in the opening frame. The overage rearguard unleashed a heavy shot from the point that bounced over Parson's glove hand. His eighth of the season was assisted by captain Liam Maaskant and Darby Llewellyn.

The Knights capitalized on a late frame 5-on-3 power play, cutting their lead in half with 22 seconds to play in the period. London controlled the puck off the faceoff, and Arizona Coyotes prospect Max Domi lifted a shot high over shoulder of Rangers goaltender Jake Paterson.

The Knights narrowly led shots on goal 11-10 after 20 minutes.

Iafrate's second of the game restored the Rangers' two goal advantage. With the Rangers shorthanded to start the frame, Ryan MacInnis jumped on a turnover inside the Kitchener blueline and took off with the veteran rearguard. MacInnis slid a cross ice pass to Iafrate, who slid in behind Parson's left skate to put the Rangers up 3-1.

Kitchener added a power play marker with less than four minutes to play in the second period, going ahead by three goals. Llewellyn settled the puck at the goal post and fed a pass to MacInnis, who lifted a shot over Parsons' blocker to record his 24th of the season, with an assist from Brandon Robinson.

MacInnis potted his second goal of the night 86 seconds later, collecting a pass from Robinson at the top of the crease and forcing it under the netminder's pads to put Kitchener up 5-1. David Miller also picked up a helper on the play, giving him points in three consecutive games.

The Rangers led shots on goal 13-7 in the second period. The Knights elected to make a goaltending change during the intermission, sending Michael Giugovaz to the crease in relief of Parsons.

The Rangers continued to pressing early in the final frame. Robinson took off on the odd man rush with MacInnis, but saw his pass bounce off a defender's stick in front. The veteran winger collected his own rebound and snapped it into the empty side of the net for his 25th of the season. Miller earned his second assist on the evening on the play.

Mason Kohn stretched Kitchener's lead to 7-1 less than a minute later. Nick Magyar's shot on goal was turned aside by Giugovaz, but the sophomore from Florida jumped on the rebound, outmuscling the defenceman and lifting a shot over the netminder's outstretched pad. The goal was Kohn's fifth of the year.

The Rangers added a power play marker late in the game, pushing ahead by seven goals. Miller's shot was blocked, but he shoveled the puck behind the net to rookie Adam Mascherin. The Rangers first round pick in the 2015 Priority Selection, he hammered it under the keeper for his 11th of the year. Hora earned his second assist of the night on the play.

The Knights out-shot the Rangers 19-10 in the third period and 37-33 overall, but Paterson made 36 saves to pick up his third straight win.
