Kitchener Rangers News Release

Eric Ming scored the lone goal for the Kitchener Rangers as they fell 4-1 to the London Knights in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinal on Friday night. Ben Thomson and Ryan Murphy recorded assists for Kitchener, while Rangers netminder John Gibson made 29 saves. The Knights win the best-of-seven series 4-1 and advance to the Western Conference Final.

The Knights opened the scoring in the first period, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 power play opportunity. Bo Horvat set the play in motion, throwing a long shot at the net that was tipped past the netminder by rearguard Olli Maatta. The Finnish import's second of the postseason was also assisted by Max Domi.

Each team fired 12 shots on goal through the opening 20 minutes.

London jumped ahead by two goals early in the middle frame, when Chris Tierney fired a long shot through traffic past netminder John Gibson. His fourth goal of the postseason also extended a five game point streak. Domi picked up his second assist of the game on the play.

Ryan Rupert extended the Knights' lead to 3-0 with a power play goal late in the second. Import blueliner Nikita Zadorov carried the puck through the neutral zone and found the Toronto Maple Leafs prospect moving to the front of the net. Rupert lifted a shot over Gibson for his third of the playoffs, with an assist from Alex Broadhurst.

The Rangers responded quickly, getting on the board less than 90 seconds later. Ben Thomson's cross-ice found Eric Ming deep in London's zone. He cut in front of net and slid a shot under Anthony Stolarz for his second of the postseason. The veteran winger's goal was also assisted by captain Ryan Murphy.

Kitchener out-shot the Knights 12-11 in the second period.

The score remained 3-1 until the final minute of play, when Domi's empty net goal secured a 4-1 London victory. His third point of the game was also his team-leading 12th point of the playoffs. Broadhurst collected his second helper of the night on Domi's fifth goal of the postseason.

The Rangers led shots on goal 12-10 in the third period and finished with a 36-33 overall advantage. Gibson made 29 saves for Kitchener.

The Knights win the best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinal series in five games. London advances and will play either the Plymouth Whalers or Owen Sound Attack in the Western Conference Final.
