The Windsor Spitfires edged the Kitchener Rangers 3-2 at The Aud on Friday.

The Rangers got off to a fast start when Michael Catenacci squeezed the puck between Spitfires goalie John Cullen and the post for his eighth of the season. The captain's third goal in four games was assisted by Cody Sol and Brandon Francisco.

Windsor rookie Stephen Alonge evened the score with his first career OHL goal, a long shot from the wing that beat Rangers' netminder John Gibson blocker-side. Michael Clarke and Jordan Maletta were credited with the assists.

The Spitfires out-shot Kitchener 14-11 in the opening period.

Windsor took a 2-1 lead late in the second period when Brady Vail collected a cross-ice pass from Adrian Robertson and flipped the puck over the glove hand of Gibson. The sophomore winger has recorded eleven goals this season.

Windsor continued to lead shots on goal with an 18-17 advantage in the frame.

The Rangers pulled even 3:20 into the final period. Ben Thomson banged the puck into the open side of the net, tying his career-high with his sixth of the year. Assisting on the play were Eric Ming, who has four points in his last four games and Ryan Murphy.

The Spitfires jumped back in front with six and a half minutes left on the clock. Kerby Rychel found the top left corner of the net for his 19th goal of the season. Vail picked up his second point of the contest with an assist on the play. Zack MacQueen was also credited with a helper.

The Rangers outshot Windsor 15-13 in the third, but the Spitfires finished the game with a 45-43 overall advantage.
