Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Kitchener Rangers headed across the border for the final time this regular season to face The Erie Otters. The Rangers were looking to make it three wins in a row and clinch a playoff spot.
Both teams started playing defensively, not wanting to make any mistakes in an important game. Erie had two back-to-back powerplays by the midway point of the period, but the Rangers were able to kill both off. Late in the 1st, Adam Zidlicky went top shelf for his 6th goal of the season to grab the 1-0 lead. The Rangers were hoping to add to their lead in the 2nd period.
Five minutes into the middle frame, Reid Valade snapped in a goal to extend the lead to 2-0. Francesco Pinelli assisted on the play, earning his 100th career OHL point. The Rangers headed to their first powerplay late in the period, looking to increase the lead. Erie scored shorthanded to make it 2-1 heading into the 3rd.
Both teams exchanged chances leading up to the midway point of the period but neither could capitalize. Andrew LeBlanc scored to regain the two-goal lead, making it 3-1. Erie responded immediately to make it 3-2 with eight minutes remaining in the game.
With the Rangers winning by a final score of 3-2, we officially clinch a playoff berth. We look to continue the win streak on Wednesday, April 13th, at 7:00 p.m. in London.
