
Rangel Posts Strong Start in M-Braves' Loss to Shuckers

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves (49-58, 16-23) lost the series opener 3-0 to the Biloxi Shuckers (56-53, 22-18) on Tuesday night at Trustmark Park.
Alan Rangel took a tough-luck loss, tossing five innings of one-run ball. The right-hander allowed four hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Rangel gave up the run in the third inning on an RBI groundout.
In his last three starts, Rangel has allowed four earned runs over 16 1/3 innings. He collected 20 strikeouts over those starts. Rangel is currently ranked as Atlanta's No. 23 prospect.
Rangel was upstaged by the 21-year-old Jacob Misiorowski. The right-hander allowed just one hit in six shutout innings with a career-high 12 strikeouts. The 12 strikeouts tied a club record.
Cody Milligan picked up the M-Braves first hit on a liner to left center in the fifth. The ball snuck under the outstretched glove of left fielder Carlos Rodriguez. Milligan went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk.
The Shuckers scored two insurance runs in the seventh on a pop up to shallow center field. Milligan sprinted and in a dove for the potential third out, but the ball landed just past his glove. A run scored, and a second runner scored ahead of a throw to the plate by Jesse Franklin V. Biloxi led 3-0 after seven innings.
Jake McSteen tossed a pair of scoreless innings in the eighth and the ninth, working around traffic to keep the game within three runs.
Biloxi pitchers retired 13 of 14 batters to close out the game. Javier Valdes doubled with two outs in the ninth for the M-Braves second hit. The M-Braves finished with two hits, three walks and two hit batsmen.
The second game of the series is on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park. LHP Nick Margevicius (0-0, 8.31) will make the start Mississippi while RHP Carlos Rodriguez (7-4, 2.63) will start for Biloxi. The first pitch is at 6:35 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before on 102.1 The Box, MiLB First Pitch App, and Bally Live.
