August 15, 2023 - Southern League (SL)
Birmingham Barons News Release
The Birmingham Barons started off the series with three consecutive victories over the Montgomery Biscuits aiding their four overall game win streak. The Barons and Biscuits had to postpone Game 4 to Saturday as the foes duel in a double-header. Birmingham could not keep their streak alive with the day's rest and ended up conceding the series to Montgomery. The Barons' most recent loss came in Game 6 by a score of 9-2 after playing just 5.2 innings.
The contest was postponed in the top of the sixth and ultimately concluded due to weather.
In the loss, the Barons on the offense side of the plate were not how they had started the series. Birmingham in the first three games of the series scored a total of 22 runs to Montgomery's seven. In the final three games of the series, the Barons mustered 10 runs and conceded 23.
Birmingham capped off the series with their statistically worst performance in Montgomery scoring only two runs and collecting five hits. The Barons earned their runs in the top of the first inning off Bryan Ramos and Edgar Quero.
Ramos achieved his RBI on his third home run of the series and 12th overall. The 21-year-old was the Barons most reliable batter as he finished the series with a batting average of .391 with three doubles, five RBI and 21 total bases. Ramos finished Game 6 2-3 from the plate with a run, an RBI and a home run.
Quero also scored his RBI in the top of the first off, a single that scored Wilfred Veras. The 20-year-old may not have shown off his power in the series, but he did record a hit in all four games played against the Biscuits. Quero ended the series with a batting average of .429 with six hits, a double and five RBI. The youngster finished the game 1-3 with an RBI.
The duo was the most prolific at the plate, however, Wilfred Veras and Tim Elko were the other Barons to record a hit.
From the mound, the Barons used a total of two pitchers in LHP Jake Eder and RHP Jared Kelley. Eder in his second start for the Barons managed 3.0 innings pitched with six hits, seven earned runs, two walks, a home run and five strikeouts. Kelley, in 2.0 innings pitched, managed to only allow three hits, two earned runs, one walk and one home run to go with two strikeouts.
Birmingham now returns home for a six-game stint with the Chattanooga Lookouts for the pair's last series in the Magic City.
