Randolph, Pitching Lead Cougars Past Canaries on Friday

GENEVA, Ill. -Cornelius Randolph drove in three runs with a triple and home run, and the Cougars pitching staff allowed just one run on four hits, leading Kane County to a 4-1 victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries on Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

In his first start since June 5th, Vance Worley (2-2) earned his fourth quality start of the season. After allowing an early run, Worley cruised through six innings allowing just one run on five hits with one strikeout against two walks. In relief of Worley, CJ Carter, Ryan Richardson, and Logan Nissen pitched three straight perfect innings to close out the ballgame. Nissen earned his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

Sioux Falls (9-23) took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Wyatt Ulrich led off the ballgame with a double down the right-field line. Later in the inning, Jabari Henry drove in Ulrich with a line-drive single into left-center field.

The Cougars (16-15) struck back against Sioux Falls starter Ty Culbreth (3-3) in the bottom of the second. With one out, Sherman Johnson singled into right field. Then, Randolph ripped a triple down the right-field line to score Johnson and tie the ballgame at one. Following Randolph's triple, BJ Lopez singled back through the middle to bring Randolph home and make it 2-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars added to their lead. After Bryce Brentz reached on a single, Randolph crushed a two-run homer down the right-field line to make it a 4-1 edge. It was Randolph's third home run of the season.

The series with the Canaries continues Saturday night. Right-hander Joey Pulido (0-3, 6.91 ERA) will take on Cougars' righty Jose Fuentes (1-1, 2.91 ERA) with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com/tickets.
