Rampage Sign Colby Cohen to PTO

SAN ANTONIO (October 17, 2013) - San Antonio Rampage General Manager Mike Santos announced today that the American Hockey League (AHL) club has signed defenseman Colby Cohen to a professional tryout contract. In conjunction, the Rampage have reassigned forwards John McFarland and Tony Turgeon to the club's ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Cohen, 24, joins the Rampage after playing five games with Assat Pori of the Finnish Elite League. The second-round pick (45th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft has played the majority of the last three seasons with the Providence Bruins and has tallied 42 points (five goals, 37 assists) in 147 games. Cohen made his NHL debut with the Colorado Avalanche on Nov. 6, 2010 and played three games with the big club. In addition, Cohen suited up in 17 games for the Lake Erie Monsters over the course of two seasons (2009-11). Prior to turning pro, Cohen played at Boston University for three years (2007-10), totaling 78 points (25 goals, 53 assists) in 118 games, in addition to winning the 2009 NCAA National Championship.

McFarland, 21, suited up in 43 games for the Rampage last season and recorded five goals and nine assists. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound winger also played 23 games in Cincinnati last year and recorded 12 goals and 13 assists. McFarland was with the Cyclones for their Clark Cup Playoff run, as well, and tallied four goals and five assists in 12 games. A second-round pick (33rd overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, McFarland spent four seasons (2008-12) in the Ontario Hockey League, recording a total of 190 points on 90 goals and 100 assists in 220 games.

Turgeon, 23, enters the professional ranks after three years on the blueline at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he totaled six assists in 62 games, along with 169 penalty minutes (2010-13). The 6-foot-4, 228-pound forward skated one season (2009-10) for the Waterloo Black Hawks and totaled 113 penalty minutes in 28 games. Turgeon also played two seasons (2007-09) for the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL and recorded eight goals, seven assists and 154 penalty minutes in 101 games.

The Silver and Black return to the AT&T Center on Friday for the first game in a home-and-home series with their instate rivals, the Texas Stars. The game will also mark the team's second-annual College Night and a KZEP / Bud Light Dollar Drink Night.
