San Antonio Rampage News Release
ROCKFORD, IL. (Feb. 18, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (29-18-4-0) shut out the Rockford IceHogs (29-17-4-2) 4-0 in front of 6,296 at BMO Harris Bank Center Wednesday morning. The win was the first against the IceHogs this season in the fourth and final game played between the teams. The Rampage are now 2-3-0-0 on the Rodeo Road Trip.
San Antonio's four goals came off the sticks of four different skaters, and had eight players appeared on the scoresheet.
Mackenzie Weegar got the Rampage on the board first with a power-play goal from just inside the blue line at 1:44 of the opening frame. Brett Olson beat Michael Leighton, flipping the puck over his shoulder to give the Rampage a 2-0 lead at the midway mark and the last goal of the period.
Vincent Trocheck tipped in the Silver and Black's third unanswered goal on the power play at 12:40 of the middle frame, and the Rampage held onto a 3-0 lead into the second intermission.
Scott Darling took over in net for Rockford to start the third period, but Greg Zanon made it a 4-0 game with his third goal of the season at 7:30. Rocco Grimaldi was unable to light the lamp with a penalty shot at 12:33 of the final frame, the second attempt for the Rampage this year. The 4-0 score stood as the final in San Antonio's first win of the season series against Rockford and first since March 31, 2012.
Houser recorded his first shutout of the season and the second of his career, tying a season high with 37 saves.
KEY STAT
Weegar, with his first career multi-point game, scored his second goal of the season and first since December 12th after being recalled from Cincinnati on Feb. 4. Trocheck and Olson both recorded a multi-point effort in today's game.
For the first time in five games, the Rampage tallied the first goal. San Antonio scored two power-play goals on the road for the first time since Jan. 3 at Toronto.
