Rampage Earn First Road Win of the Season with 4-2 Victory

November 28, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL) - San Antonio Rampage News Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (November 28, 2012) - The San Antonio Rampage (5-10-0-3) rode some timely scoring and outstanding goaltending, as they snapped their eight-game winless streak and collected their first road win of the season with a 4-2 victory against the Rochester Americans (9-7-1-0) Wednesday night at Blue Cross Arena.

Rampage netminder Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves off of 31 shots against his former team, including several acrobatic stops on his way to Second Star of the Game Honors. Ten different Rampage skaters collected at least one point in the victory, which was the club's sixth straight against the Americans dating back to the 2007-08 season.

Entering the game, Rochester held the eighth best power play in the league. However, the Rampage held the Americans to 0-for-6 on the night with the man advantage.

Greg Rallo opened the scoring at 4:23 of the first period when he received a centering pass from James Wright and fired it into the back of the net. Jonathan Hazen had the secondary assist on the goal in his first game since being recalled on loan from the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.

The Rampage killed off three Rochester penalties in the first and kept the home team off the board, despite the Amerks firing 10 shots on Markstrom.

San Antonio carried that momentum into the second period and tallied three goals in the middle frame. Rampage rookie Quinton Howden started the offensive outburst at 2:57 of the second period when Jared Gomes found him wide open on a two-on-one. Howden beat Amerks netminder David Leggio blocker side for his fourth goal in the last eight games.

At 5:24 of the second Michael Caruso, a former Amerk, potted his first goal of the season to give the Rampage a 3-0 lead. Leggio made the initial save off a shot, but the rebound trickled into the high slot where Caruso corralled it and fired past the Amerks' goaltender. The tally gave the Rampage their first three-goal lead of the season.

Rochester got on the board at 10:09 of the second when Evan Rankin tipped a shot from Nick Crawford past Markstrom.

But the Rampage ended the period on a high note with just over a minute remaining when Jon Rheault rushed into the Rochester zone with Jean-Francois Jacques. Rheault made a highlight-reel spin-o-rama move to get around the Amerk defender and found a wide open Jacques to make it 4-1 and reclaim the three-goal advantage for the Rampage entering the final frame.

Rheault has now recorded six goals and seven assists in his last 11 games for the Rampage. The Arlington, Texas native has only been held off the scoresheet twice throughout the month of November.

Rochester's Frederick Roy added a goal at 12:57 of the third off a net-mouth scramble, but Markstrom shut the door to help the Rampage kick off their five-game road trip on a high note.

San Antonio went 0-for-4 with the man advantage and was outshot 31-26 on the night. The win was the first for the Rampage since shutting out Oklahoma City, 2-0, on Nov. 4. Of the Rampage's eight game winless streak, seven of the games were decided by two goals and four were decided by a single tally, including two shootouts.

The Silver & Black will continue their five-game roadtrip against North Division foes in Cleveland Friday night as they face off against the Lake Erie Monsters. Faceoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT. The Rampage return home on Saturday, Dec. 8 on Military Appreciation Night to kick off a two-game set with the Oklahoma City Barons at 7:00 p.m.

Individual, and season, tickets start at $10 and can be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office, by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com.
