IceCaps Defeat Phantoms 3-2

November 28, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL) - St. John's IceCaps News Release

Eddie Pasquale made 31 saves as the St. John's IceCaps bested the Adirondack Phantoms 3-2 Wednesday night at Glens Falls Civic Center.

Pasquale stopped 13 shots in the third period in picking up his fifth win of the season and third in his last five starts. Alex Burmistrov and Spencer Machacek notched a pair of assists each while Kevin Clark scored his first goal of the season. Paul Postma and Carl Klingberg also scored for St. John's (10-9-0-1), which moved into a tie for first place in the Atlantic Division with the idle Manchester Monarchs.

The IceCaps once again found success with the man advantage. After going 4-for-10 in last weekend's two-game set with the Providence Bruins - including a 3-for-6 showing on Sunday - St. John's scored twice more in seven chances, including a pair of power play markers 10 seconds apart halfway through the final frame. Postma's goal at 10:18 of the third was followed by Klingberg's eventual game-winner at 10:28.

After a scoreless first period, the teams traded goals in the second, with the Phantoms striking first. Jamie Akeson took a slap shot that hit Harry Zolnierczyk and went off Pasquale's pad and in, giving the home side a 1-0 lead at 13:15 of the middle frame.

St. John's tied it just minutes later on Clark's first of the season. Burmistrov burst into the Phantoms zone and was denied on a nice save by Munroe, but Clark was there to deposit the rebound and knot the game at one heading into the third period.

The IceCaps forged ahead on a two-man advantage midway through the third frame after Adirondack was whistled for a pair of minor penalties. Burmistrov teed up the puck for Postma back at the point and the reigning IceCaps' MVP blasted a one-timer through traffic and past Munroe to give the IceCaps a 2-1 lead.

Then, just 10 seconds later on a five-on-four advantage, Machacek sped down the right side and swung a pass in front to a streaking Klingberg, who redirected the puck into the net for a two-goal St. John's lead.

Adirondack closed the gap to one with 4:33 to go in regulation. Erik Gustafsson's wrist shot from the point went along the ice and was deflected by Rob Bordson, making it 3-2 with just minutes left to play.

The IceCaps would shut the door down the stretch, holding on for their second straight win overall and second in a row on the road.

The IceCaps continue their three-game road trip Friday when they travel to Albany to face the Devils at Times Union Center. Listen Live with broadcaster Brian Rogers at www.stjohnsicecaps.com and on 930AM This Is Newfoundland Labrador, or watch online at www.ahllive.com. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. with the pregame show hitting the air at 8:00 (all times Newfoundland).
