June 14, 2014 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- There was a stiff 18 mile-per-hour wind blowing out to the short-porch leftfield at Hammons Field on Saturday night and both clubs took advantage as the Naturals first baseman Max Ramirez blasted two home runs and plated all four tallies in the 5-4 loss to the Springfield Cardinals (33-35) in front of a capacity crowd at Hammons Field.
Ramirez belted his first home run of the season, a solo fly, in the second inning to give Northwest Arkansas (24-44) an initial 1-0 lead. With the game tied at one in the top of the third and three men on, Ramirez again knocked a long ball over the leftfield wall to give the Naturals a 4-1 advantage.
RHP Jason Adam (1-6, 5,87) tossed 7.1 innings of baseball allowing three runs - all three solo home runs - and struck out eight. The 22-year old right-hander pitched into the eighth inning for the first time this season and did not factor in the late-inning decision.
Springfield tied the game at four in the bottom of the ninth on the club's fourth home run of the night. Pinch-hitter James Ramsey took a 1-1 pitch opposite field to tie the contest with the Cardinals walking off in the ensuing bottom of the 10th.
The home run by Ramirez in the second inning was the first for the Naturals since June 4 as he finished the night 2-for-4 with four RBI and two runs score. Jorge Bonifacio tallied his first multi-game since May 30 with a pair of singles tonight and Ethan Chapman chipped in with a couple of singles in the losing effort.
All-Star RHP Andrew Triggs (3-1, 2.25) took the loss allowing the final two runs to cross in the ninth and 10th innings.
The Naturals head home for an eight-game road trip and will wrap up the first half, which begins on Tuesday, June 17, against the Arkansas Travelers. Game one will begin on Sunday, June 15 with RHP Tim Melville (1-6, 4.07) taking the ball against LHP Nate Smith (2-1, 4.18) for the 6:05p.m. first pitch.
You can catch all live play-by-play action for both games with the Voice of the Naturals Benjamin Kelly on your home for the Naturals 92.1 the Ticket for a 5:50p.m. Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show leading up to first pitch from Arvest Ballpark.
