Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary head coach and general manager John Hufnagel announces that international receiver Ken-Yon Rambo has signed a one-day contract with the club, which allows Rambo to retire as a member of the Stampeders.

"I'm proud and thankful for this opportunity to retire as a Stampeder," said Rambo. "It's a great city, a great organization and the fans are the best of the CFL. I had so many great years in Calgary that I will always fondly remember. I thank Coach Huff, Coach George Cortez, Coach Dave Dickenson and Coach Pete (Costanza) for giving me the chance to be the player I was capable of being.

"I also want to thank all my teammates - so many great friends that I made over the years. I'm still a Stampeder at heart and I always will be."

Rambo played 98 games over seven seasons (2005-11) with the Stampeders and he ranks among the franchise's top 10 all-time in receptions (406), yards (5,995) and receiving touchdowns (39). He is one of just four receivers in Stamps history to record 100 catches in a season - he accomplished the feat in 2008 - and in 2010 he was one of three Calgary receivers to surpass the 1,000-yard plateau.

The 36-year-old Long Beach, Calif., native played in six playoff games for the Stamps and had 18 catches for 330 yards and three TDs as well as the 2008 Grey Cup, where he made five catches for 84 yards to help the Stamps win a championship.

"Ken-Yon was a dynamic player and an integral part of our offence for a number of years," said Hufnagel. "He had a memorable season in 2008 as he helped us win a Grey Cup and he showed great determination to overcome a serious knee injury and once again return to the top of his game. I congratulate Ken-Yon for his excellent career and wish him all the best with his future endeavours."

Rambo, a product of Ohio State, played five games for the Toronto Argonauts in 2012, his final season of action, and finished his career with 103 games, 416 receptions, 6,119 and 40 touchdowns (39 receiving and one rushing). He also returned 50 punts for 463 yards and four kickoffs for 60 yards.
