(Edmonton) - The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club announces the signing of kicker/punter Sean Whyte.

A CFL veteran, Whyte originally signed with the BC Lions in 2007. After seeing his first game action on July 16, 2009, against Edmonton, he went on to make 27-of-35 field goals attempts and 30 converts. He also recorded 86 punts for 3,548 yards and five singles.

In 2011, he was traded to the Montreal Alouettes where he would spent five years (2011-15). The five-foot-nine, 175-pound Whyte made 160-of-190 field goal attempts and 174 converts. He also recorded 508 punts for 21,869 yards and 33 singles.

The native of White Rock, British Columbia, set an Alouettes record in 2011 with 24 consecutive field goals, breaking the previous record of 21 set by Don Stewart in 1976.

In 2013, he earned East All Star honours. In 2011, he was awarded the Lew Hayman Trophy as the East Division Most Outstanding Canadian. He was also named the Alouettes Most Outstanding Canadian and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
