Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders receiver Brett Ralph today announced his retirement from football.
"I did a semester of school this off-season and as the semester came to a close, I began to look at my future past pro football," said Ralph. "It forced me to make a tough decision and I decided it was time to move on to my life after football.
"I want to thank the Stampeders organization, our coaching staff and have nothing but the best to say about this organization since I got here in 2005."
The 28-year-old Raymond, Alta., native spent his entire Canadian Football League career with the Stampeders, appearing in 90 regular-season games and seven post-season contests over five seasons. He was a member of the Stampeders' 2008 Grey Cup championship squad, contributing a 20-yard touchdown catch to Calgary's victory over Montreal in the title game.
Ralph finishes his career with 175 catches for 2,507 yards and 12 touchdowns. His most productive seasons came in 2007 and 2008 as he recorded back-to-back campaigns of at least 50 receptions for a combined 1,419 yards and eight scores. Despite his smallish stature - five-foot-10 and 184 lbs. - Ralph never missed a game during his career.
"Brett has given a lot to this football club over the years and has definitely become a fan favourite," said Hufnagel. "It's unfortunate to lose a player who has shown great character and commitment to the team, but we have a lot of competition at the receiver position and someone now has a chance to step up at camp."
Ralph was selected in the sixth round, 45th overall, by the Stampeders in the 2005 CFL Canadian Draft.
