Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 22, 2011) -The Long Island Ducks came from behind and defeated Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-4 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Southern Maryland jumped out to an early lead on Brian Barton's RBI single in the opening inning off Ducks' starter Valerio de los Santos. The following inning, Freddie Thon connected for a RBI double off Blue Crabs' starter Virgil Vasquez to tie the game at one.
The Blue Crabs took back the lead with a three-run fourth inning to knock de los Santos from the game. A RBI double by Christian Lopez and a two-run double by Adam Godwin put the visitors up 4-1. It stayed that way until the seventh, when Kraig Binick's RBI double to left cut the Ducks' deficit to two.
The Ducks then staged a dramatic three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win. Javier Colina's solo homer and a two-out two-run double to right by Matt Padgett highlighted the rally.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Jeremy Hill (6-1) got the win after tossing a scoreless eighth inning. Steve Palazzolo (9-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits in one-third of an inning. Ehren Wassermann closed out the night with a scoreless ninth to earn his 11th save of the season.
Padgett led the Flock with three hits at the plate and two RBI.
