Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - 18-year old right-winger Toni Rajala has been chosen the Tip Top Tailors Wheat King Player of the Month Award winner for the month of February.

A fourth round draft choice of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, Rajala enters Wednesday night's game against the first place Saskatoon Blades with 25 goals and 58 points in 54 games. Only five other WHL rookies have scored more than the Finnish born Rajala this season.

During the month of February, Rajala tied Brayden Schenn for the club scoring lead with eight goals and 17 points in twelve games as the Wheat Kings moved back to within striking distance of top spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference with nine wins.

Brandon's first selection in last summer's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, Rajala was a member of the Finnish National Junior Team - for the second straight season - at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Saskatchewan.

In addition to the WJHC, Rajala led Finland to a bronze medal at last year's World Under 18 Hockey Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. Rajala led the tournament with ten goals and 19 points and broke the previous record held by Russia's Alex Ovechkin.

In recognition of the monthly honour, Rajala will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings during one of the hockey club's final home games over the course of the next week.

Brandon enters Wednesday's game with a record of 44-18-1-3, good for 92 points which leaves them one point back of Saskatoon and Calgary in the battle for top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Including Wednesday's game, the Wheat Kings play four of their final 6 games on home ice.

Tickets to Brandon's remaining games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
