TACOMA, Wash. -- Darren Ford's two-home run night was not enough to help the Tacoma Rainiers avoid a 5-2 series-opening loss to the Sacramento River Cats at Cheney Stadium on Monday.

Ford went deep early in the outing, hitting a first-inning lead-off home run off River Cats starter Graham Godfrey that gave Tacoma a quick 1-0 edge. The outfielder went deep again in the sixth with another one-run home run off Godfrey - his third this season.

Infielder Adam Rosales spoiled the Rainiers early advantage with a game-tying solo home run with one out in the third inning.

In the fourth, first baseman Kila Ka'aihue's two-run home run spearheaded a three-run frame that ultimately saw Sacramento take the lead for good.

Tacoma was limited to just four hits in the contest. Ford's 2-for-4 effort led the lineup and marked his 13th multi-hit outing over his first 24 games since his season debut on June 15. Alex Liddi and Trayvon Robinson each turned in singles.

Starter Steve Garrison (0-2) was dealt his second loss in his third start with Tacoma this season after allowing five runs on eight hits over 7.0 innings. The left-hander walked one and struck out two.

Reliever Stephen Pryor walked one and struck out two over a scoreless inning of work in the eighth. In his 2012 Rainiers debut, right-hander David Pauley allowed one hit and fanned two.

The Rainiers (40-54) host the second game of the club's four-game series with the River Cats (58-38) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, July 17. Right-hander Brian Sweeney (4-2, 4.62) is slated to start for Tacoma against Sacramento's right-hander Tyson Ross (3-2, 2.53).
