Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - A steady performance on the mound steered the Tacoma Rainiers to a 4-2 win over the Las Vegas 51s in front of 3,759 fans at Cheney Stadium on Monday night.
Tacoma's pitching staff, led by starter Erasmo Ramirez, held the 51s to two unearned runs en route to the Rainiers collecting their third consecutive win. The right-hander Ramirez picked up the victory in his Triple-A debut after allowing one run on eight hits and striking out three over six innings of work.
Relievers Chaz Roe and Scott Patterson combined to allow one run on two hits over the game's final three innings, with Patterson picking up his fifth save of the season following a perfect performance with two strikeouts in the ninth.
At the plate, designated hitter Wily Mo Pena gave the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead after scoring infielder Kyle Seager on a two-double in the first inning.
Tacoma, with the score tied at 1-1, re-took the lead in the fifth inning. Third baseman Alex Liddi singled on a fly ball that plated infielder Kyle Seager from second base and put the Rainiers up a run.
Luis Rodriguez added insurance in the bottom of the sixth in his first game back with Tacoma since coming off the disabled list on Sunday. The infielder cleared the bases with a two-out, two-run double that gave the Rainiers a 4-1 advantage.
The loss went to Las Vegas starter Chad Beck (1-1) after the right-hander surrendered four runs on seven hits with five walks and seven strikeouts over a 5.2-inning effort.
The Rainiers (54-55) look to complete a series sweep of the 51s in their finale with Las Vegas at 11:35 a.m. on Tuesday. Left-hander Nate Robertson (3-4, 7.50) is slated to start for Tacoma in the outing against right-hander P.J. Walters (7-4, 4.27) for the 51s. The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
