Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - The Winnipeg Goldeyes lost 6-3 to the Cleburne Railroaders at Shaw Park on Monday night.
Tied at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning, Levi Scott lined a two-out, grand slam home run to left field that put the Railroaders ahead for good.
The Goldeyes pulled within 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth on a Tyler Baker RBI double before Cleburne relievers Will Mathis, Patrick Young, and Shawn Blackwell combined for four shutout innings to close out the game. Blackwell worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth to earn his 12th save of the year.
Tucker Nathans led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run to centre field that gave Winnipeg a 1-0 lead.
The Railroaders answered back in the top of the third. With the bases loaded and two outs, former Major Leaguer Rafael Palmeiro lined a two-run single to centre that put Cleburne in front 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Jordan Ebert came back from an 0-2 count to draw a nine-pitch, one-out walk. Ebert was sacrificed to second by Matt McCann, and scored the tying run from second on a wild pitch by Railroaders' starter Dylan Mouzakes.
Mouzakes (2-6) picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on four hits over five innings. Mouzakes walked one and struck out two.
Alex Boshers (3-8) started for the Goldeyes and took the loss despite a quality start. Boshers allowed six runs, two earned, on nine hits over six innings. Boshers walked none and struck out four.
Brandon Bingel and Jack Charleston combined for three scoreless innings in relief of Boshers.
The series continues Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Mitchell Lambson (6-3, 3.89) goes to the mound for Winnipeg. Left-hander Michael Gunn (3-4, 3.48) counters for Cleburne.
