Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City, IA - For the first time this year the Sioux City Explorers have lost to a South Division opponent as the Cleburne Railroaders come away with the victory 4-3 on Saturday.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Sioux City took the lead off the bat of Lane Milligan as he swatted a two run home run to straight away center to put the X's on top 2-1.
Sioux City added another run in the fifth as Mitch Ghelfi reached second base to lead off the frame on a throwing error. He immediately scored on a LT Tolbert base hit to put the X's up 3-1.
In the sixth, Cleburne had their best offensive inning of the night as they would score three times. A one out solo home run off the bat of Alay Lago cut the X's lead to 3-2. And after a base hit, Ramon Hernandez scored from first on a Chase Simpson double to tie the game at three. Simpson scored on a two out single by Hunter Clanin to give the Railroaders a 4-3 lead that they would not relinquish.
The four runs were charged to Explorers starter Brett Adcock (1-4) who was handed the loss. He pitched six innings allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking none for the first time this year. Adcock pitched well in the contest allowing only three hits through his first five innings of work.
Unfortunately for him on the other end Jheyson Manzueta (1-0) who was making just his second start since 2015, picked up the victory as he went six innings, allowing three runs, two being earned on four hits as he walked four and struck out eight.
Cleburne's bullpen tossed the final three innings of the game and kept the X's off the scoreboard.
Sioux City's pen accomplished the same feat, and the Explorers earned eleven strikeouts as a team while not walking a single batter.
After the forfeit on Friday night by Cleburne and then the Railroaders win on. Saturday, the series finale on Sunday afternoon represents the rubber game of this three game series. Sioux City will send right hander Zach Hedges (4-1) to the bump and he will face lefty Stephen Greenlees (0-0, 4.50) with first pitch set for 4:05 pm.
