Cleburne Railroaders News Release

CLEBURNE, Texas - The Cleburne Railroaders have signed catcher Derek Shomon, the club announced Friday.

Shomon, 28, has a limited track record as a player in professional baseball, but has also served as a coach for both the Lake Erie Crushers and the Schaumburg Boomers.

"After talking to Derek's manager last year, he had nothing but high praise for him," said General Manager Bill Adams. "We saw his workout videos and we are confident that he will be a great piece to have on the team, especially behind the plate."

Shomon's career line all came in the 2017 season, when he appeared in seven games for Lake Erie and hit one homer with one RBI in 21 plate appearances. Shomon primarily appeared as a designated hitter, but did make one appearance at first base.

Shomon also played collegiately for Indiana Wesleyan, Judson University and Oakton Community College.

The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Season tickets and single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
