Cleburne Railroaders News Release

CLEBURNE, Texas - The Cleburne Railroaders have signed knuckleballer Chris Nowlin, the club announced Tuesday.

Nowlin, 36, has four previous seasons of professional baseball under his belt.

"We know Chris, and he's been working hard out in California," said pitching coach Ed Pruitt. "He's a big guy, obviously throws the knuckleball. If he's on, he can be a helpful and dangerous commodity for us. He can really mix things up."

Nowlin hasn't pitched in pro baseball since 2014 and has just one season since 2010, but he has played for four teams in four different independent leagues, starting with the Lincoln Saltdogs in 2007. He has a career 18.90 ERA in 10 appearances with eight starts, giving up 46 runs on 39 hits with 46 walks and seven strikeouts in 20 innings.

Nowlin pitched collegiately at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, and went to Westboro High School in Westboro, Mass.

The Railroaders open their second season with a three-game series against the two-time defending champion Winnipeg Goldeyes May 18 at The Depot. Season tickets and single-game tickets are on sale now by visiting www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
