North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, N.C. (Friday, August 20, 2010) - The Carolina RailHawks begin a two-game road trip on Sunday, August 22, as they travel to Austin to face the Aztex. Game time is 7 p.m. and fans may be able to watch the match online at www.austinaztex.com.
"It will be a hard-fought game as it is always difficult when you travel to Austin," said RailHawks coach Martin Rennie. "Their record is very good this season and they are high up in the league standings because of their good results. They have some good players who play well as a team so we'll have to be at our best to get a positive result. We've also been playing well with a good result the other night so we're going there on a high note as well."
The Austin Aztex are only in their second year of existence and finished the 2009 season with a 5-17-8 record good for second-to-last in the USL standings. Head Coach Adrian Heath made some tactical changes in the off season but kept some of his 2009 players, including English forward Eddie Johnson who leads the team with nine goals and three assists. The Aztex, who are in second place of the USSF D-2 USL Conference, can also rely on newcomer Maxwell Griffin who has tallied seven goals and four assists. The Aztex are coming off a recent 2-0 road loss against the Puerto Rico Islanders.
This is only the fourth meeting overall between these two teams. The RailHawks hold the advantage with a 2-0-1 record against the Aztex from the 2009 season. This will be the first of two meetings in 2010 with the Aztex returning the visit on October 1. The RailHawks are looking to continue their form after the electrifying 2-1 win from last Wednesday night over Miami FC. Gregory Richardson and Etienne Barbara responded in kind to Miami forward Paulo Araujo's goal with two phenomenal goals to give the RailHawks their first come-from-behind victory in franchise history.
The RailHawks continue their road trip in Tampa visiting the Rowdies on July 25 and return home on Saturday, August 28, to host the Puerto Rico Islanders at 7 p.m. For tickets and information please visit the LGFCU Box Office at WakeMed Soccer Park, call 919-859-5425 or visit www.carolinarailhawks.com.
