
RailCats win over RedHawks

FARGO, ND - The Gary SouthShore RailCats snapped the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 10-game win streak and moved back into a first place tie with the âHawks in the Northern League standings with an 8-2 win Saturday night at Newman Outdoor Field. RailCats starter RHP Derell McCall pitched 5.2 innings and gave-up two runs (all earned) to extend his undefeated streak to six games.
RedHawks SS Zach Penprase poked a one-out single to right-field, nabbed second and reached third on a defensive miscue. CF Nic Jackson doubled Penprase home to open the scoring in the bottom of the first inning.
RedHawks starter, southpaw Broc Coffman, issued a leadoff walk to RailCats DH Cristian Guerrero. Guerrero reached second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a groundout. With the tying-run 90-feet away, RF Jordan Czarniecki cracked an RBI double to tie it at two all.
CF Rob Marconi drew a walk and 3B Chris Carrara cracked a come-backer to the pitcher to push Czarniecki home for a 2-1 lead. LF Mike Massaro capped the second inning scoring with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 3-1 RailCats.
RedHawks RF Mike Coles hit a ball to the right-field gap and beat the throw to second to leg out a double. Jackson singled Coles home and the RedHawks crept within a run. In the sixth, Czarniecki hit a bloop single to right, Marconi hit a sac bunt and the RailCats benefited from three RedHawks errors for a 5-2 lead.
In the seventh, Czarniecki gave the RailCats a five-run cushion with a two-run big fly to make it 7-2. Carrara led-off the eighth with a triple to the left-field gap. With a runner at third and the infield drawn-in, Pecci plated Carrara with an RBI single to make it 8-2.
The RedHawks and RailCats will play in the rubber-match game of this three-game series tomorrow at Newman Outdoor Field. RHP Garry Bakker (7-5, 5.79) will toe the rubber for the RedHawks and RHP Garret Holleran will get the ball for the RailCats. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
