KANSAS CITY, KS- The Joliet JackHammers (30-57) got a solo home run from C Christian Lopez (1-4) in the 7th inning to take a 2-1 lead before the Kansas City T-Bones (41-46) scored two runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to pick up a 3-2 win before 9,613 fans at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Saturday night.
The T-Bones scored a run in the 2nd inning against Joliet RHP Nate Sevier (2-3). LF Luis Terrero (2-4) led off the inning with a double and scored on a double by 1B Jim Fasano (2-4) for a 1-0 lead.
The JackHammers scored the game-tying run in the 3rd inning against Kansas City LHP Brett Davis. CF Adam Klein (2-3) singled and moved to second base on a balk. 2B Rob Dahlberg (0-3) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Klein went to third base on the play. He scored from on a groundout by SS Kevin Rios (1-4) for a 1-1 tied score.
Joliet earned its first lead of the game in the 7th inning when Lopez stepped up the plate with two outs in the inning and pulled a pitch from Davis over the left field wall for a solo home run and a 2-1 JackHammers lead.
Sevier was sensational for the JackHammers. He worked perfect innings in the 1st, 4th and 8th innings. In the 9th inning, Terrero pulled a fastball from Sevier over the left field wall for a 2-2 tied score. Fasano singled and moved to second base on a single by C Craig Hurba (1-4).
JackHammers interim manager Ira Smith lifted Sevier out of the game in favor of RHP Drew Shetrone. The Joliet closer struck out DH Ryan Fox (0-4) and 3B Jacob Blackwood (0-4).
Neb Brown (1-1) came to plate to pinch-hit for SS Jeff Helps (0-3) and lined a single into left field to score Fasano from second base for a 3-2 win.
Sevier finished three runs allowed on nine hits. He did not walk a man and struck out five T-Bones.
The JackHammers and Kansas City T-Bones finish their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. RHP Rory Shortell (3-6, 5.40) gets the ball against RHP Chris Rhoades (5-4, 6.00) for the T-Bones. Pre-game coverage begins at 12:50 p.m. on AM 1340 WJOL and online at www.jackhammerbaseball.com.
