Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats are in a battle for the top spot in the Northern League and as the regular season comes to a close, U. S. Steel Yard has a big week of promotions planned as the final homestand of 2009 begins.
The RailCats begin a stretch of seven straight home games to close out the regular season on Tuesday, August 25 when they host the Schaumburg Flyers for the first of three games. When the gates open at 6 p.m., the RailCats will celebrate the soon-to-come holiday season with Christmas In August, presented by Guse Christmas Trees. The spirit of winter will be alive as Santa Claus will visit the ballpark and every child who goes to see St. Nick gets a photo taken and receives a gift from the RailCats. Toys for Tots will be in attendance, giving $2 off game tickets for anyone that brings in an unopened toy to donate. Plus, every person who makes their way through the gates will also receive a free hot dog, courtesy of Aramark. Fans can take a voucher to any concession stand and grab a free Chicago Red Hot to enjoy at the park. The RailCats will also unite the futbol fans in Northwest Indiana with Soccer Night, celebrating the world's game by giving any fan wearing a soccer jersey $2 off the price of their ticket. And the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive the final of five baseball card collector's sets, sponsored by U. S. Steel.
Wednesday, August 26, the RailCats will be giving away a one-of-a-kind Chicago Blackhawks Hoosier Bat, courtesy Salvi, Schostok, & Pritchard, P.C., to the first 1,500 fans through the gates. And two Blackhawks stars - one current and one former - will join the fans for autographs and interaction at the ballpark. As you would expect, the whole evening will be dubbed as Hockey Night and anyone sporting a hockey jersey at the gate gets $2 off their ticket. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the first 1,000 fans also receive a free Picture Pack, sponsored by Great Lakes Orthopedic. Before the game, the featured RailCats will be signing autographs on the concourse.
Thursday, August 27, Indiana 105 will be on hand for Tropical Night when Hawaiian shirts and Jimmy Buffet rule the Steel Yard. Buffet tribute bands will play the hits and anyone wearing tropical attire gets $2 off their ticket. For the famished, the RailCats present their second All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, featuring special box seat tickets for $22 which come with a special wrist band allowing the patron access to unlimited hot dogs, burgers, soda, nachos, popcorn, pretzels, and peanuts at the park. If that weren't enough, it is also a Thirsty Thursday where fans 21 & older get $2 MGD and Miller Lite drafts, courtesy North Coast Distributing and X-Rock 103.9 FM. And it's Chesterton Community Night so residents with a valid Indiana ID get $2 off their tickets at the gate. Gates open at 6 p.m.
