GARY, IN-The Gary SouthShore RailCats (39-28) amassed 10 runs on 15 hits to complete the three-game sweep of the Joliet JackHammers (24-43) with a 10-4 win before 2,708 fans at U.S. Steel Yard on Thursday evening.

Gary scored four runs in the 1st inning to take an early 4-0 lead. DH Mike Massaro (2-5) led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a wild pitch assessed to RHP Rory Shortell (3-4). 2B Eric McNamee (2-4) and SS Jay Pecci (2-5) popped out and 1B Steve Haake (2-3) was hit by a pitch. Haake stole second base and Massaro scored from third on a throwing error by Joliet C Tug Gillingham for a 1-0 RailCats lead.

LF Jordan Czarniecki (0-4) worked a walk and RF Christian Guerrero (2-5) smacked an RBI single to score Haake for a 2-0 RailCats lead.

3B Mike Rohde (1-5) followed with a single to score Czarniecki and move Guerrero to third base. C Brett Wallace (2-4) singled home Guerrero for a 4-0 Gary lead.

After Gary scored a single run in the 2nd inning thanks to back-to-back doubles by McNamee and Pecci for a 5-0 lead, the JackHammers started their scoring with three runs in the 4th inning. LF Brad Correll (1-3) and RF Joe Gaetti (1-3) each worked walks. 1B Freddie Thon (2-4) hit a three-run home run over the right field wall to bring the JackHammers within two runs at 5-3.

The RailCats scored three runs in the 4th inning to jump out to an 8-3 lead before the rains stopped play with two outs in the 4th inning.

A 53-minute rain delay ensued and the two clubs resumed play at 9:26 p.m.

A two-run home run by Massaro in the 5th inning gave the RailCats a 10-3 lead.

Gaetti hit his second home run of the season when he smacked a solo home run over the left field wall in the Joliet 6th inning to make the score 10-4.

The JackHammers return home to start a three-game series with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Fargo-Moorhead has yet to announce a starting pitcher when Joliet sends LHP Ryan Gehring (3-7, 4.74) to the mound. The JackHammers will host a spectacular fireworks show sponsored by Aramark after the ganme. We'll also celebrate Halloween with a costume contest at the game.
