GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats ran into a buzz saw on Saturday night at US Steel Yard the entire pitching staff of the Kansas City T-Bones. Jeremy Strawn tossed six shutout innings and three T-Bones relievers worked a scoreless frame each as Kansas City shut out the RailCats 5-0.

The T-Bones got after RailCats starter AJ Quintero in the top of the second. Vladimir Frias led off with a double and went to third on a sacrifice by Jacob Hayes. Brian Erie then brought Frias home with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

Meanwhile the RailCats threatened in the first with a double by Brennan Metzger and a walk by Matt Hibbert off of Strawn. The right hander then retired the next 14 batters until a double by Spencer Mahoney to lead off the home half of the sixth.

Kansas City then added another run in the fourth off of Quintero, when Jacob Hayes singled then stole second. Robby Kuzdale followed by driving in Hayes and it was 2-0. The "Bones" picked up an unearned run in the fifth on a throwing error by RailCats shortstop Jarred Mederos.

The Kansas City knockout punch came in the seventh facing Kevin Osaki of the RailCats. Osaki issued walks to Starlin Rodrigues and Nate Tenbrink to start the inning but got Kyle Richardson to fly to center for out number one. The RailCats then walked Vladimir Frias to load the bases. Jacob Hayes then drove in the final run on a sac fly to right and it was 5-0.

Jared Messer, Aaron Baker and Fernando Hernandez combined for three innings of scoreless relief holding the RailCats hitless and with Gary managing only one walk. The loss was the 8th in a row for the RailCats and the 55th loss tied the mark for the second most losses in a season in franchise history.

For Strawn's efforts he picked up the win (4-13) while Quintero dropped to (1-5) in the shutout loss. The two teams will play game two of the three game series Sunday at 2:10pm at US Steel Yard.
