
Birds Beat Blasters 4-2 on Saturday Night

SIOUX FALLS, SD- The Sioux Falls Canaries (38-59) returned to Sioux Falls Stadium to open up the final homestand of the 2015 season against the American Association's newest team the Joplin Blasters. The Birds rode a strong pitching performance from starter Stephen Bougher, and the pieced together four runs in the 4-2 win in front of 2,888 on Saturday night.
The Canaries got on the offensive attack early, with Jason Repko scoring the game's first run on a two-out bases loaded walk. The Birds made it a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning after Jerome Pena hit a lead-off double, and later scored on a David Bergin RBI single. Richard Stock made it a 3-0 game in the bottom of the 4th inning on his own lead-off double, later scoring on a Chris Grayson two-out RBI single. Bergin drove in the fourth and final run of the night in the bottom of the 7th inning on an RBI sac-fly to deep right field, giving Repko his second run scored of the night.
Grayson and Stock were the only Birds' batters to collect multiple hits on Saturday night, while Repko went o-for-2 with two runs scored.
Bougher (6-5, 3.53 ERA) picked up the win in his final start of the season after holding the Blasters scoreless over six inning. The right-hander extended his streak to 15 consecutive innings without a run allowed in the win.
Joplin's starter, Sam Agnew-Wieland (3-4, 3.69 ERA) made his first start of the season, and suffered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over five innings.
The Labor Day Weekend series continues on Sunday afternoon with LHP Joe Bircher (4-4, 3.16 ERA) taking the mound in his final start of the season. The Southpaw will battle Joplin's Ace, Nestor Molina (7-5, 3.11 ERA) with first pitch scheduled for 4:05 PM at Sioux Falls stadium.
Join the Sioux Falls Canaries for our final Family Funday on Sunday, September 6th. Kids will have the opportunity to run the bases and get autographs from their favorite Canaries players and coaches after the game!
The Sioux Falls Canaries will also auctioning off their black alternate uniforms. Fans will have the opportunity to place bids on their favorite players jerseys until the end of the 6th inning. Bidding starts at $60 and will go up with $5 increments.
The First 500 fans to walk through the gates at 3:00 PM will also receive a free Canaries Fishing Jig courtesy of Mr. Jigs Fishing Tackle and Guide. The Canaries and Mr. Jigs will be raffling off two guided fishing trips worth $350-$450 during the game.
