RailCats Sign Wes Chamberlain

GARY – The Gary SouthShore RailCats (Northern League) have signed infielder Wes Chamberlain to a 2003 contract, the team announced today.

Chamberlain, 37, appeared in 385 Major League games over six seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox. Chamberlain's best season in the Majors came in 1993 with the national League champion Phillies, when he hit .282 with 12 homeruns, 45 RBI, and 20 doubles in 96 games. Chamberlain has spent parts of the last three seasons in the Northern League, hitting .327 with Winnipeg in 2000 and a combined .259 with Schaumburg in 2001-2002. Chamberlain also spent part of the 2002 season with Newark of the Atlantic League, batting .296 with 11 HR and 50 RBIs in 49 games.

Chamberlain compiled a .255 career Major League average with 43 homeruns and 167 RBI, and even more impressive minor league career numbers of .295 with 151 homeruns and 759 RBI.
