GARY â Five Joliet Jackhammers pitchers Combined on a four-hit, 11-strikeout shutout as Joliet blanked the Gary SouthShore RailCats 7-0 in exhibition action Monday night at U. S. Steel yard.
The JackHammers scored in each of the first five innings. Ryan Sienko batted 3-for-5 and scored three runs, while Troy Cameron, with a two-run shot in the third, and Eddie Fink, with a leadoff blast in the fourth, each homered for Joliet.
The Railcats stranded seven runners, three of them at third base. Billy Brown had the RailCats' lone extra base hit, a fifth-inning double. Billy Malone drew a pair of walks and stole one base.
Brent Franklin started for Joliet and pitched four scoreless innings. Dan Saken, who was credited with the win, threw two scoreless relief innings before giving way to Brad gavelek, Steve Hecker, and Oscar Montero over the final three frames.
RailCats starter Todd George suffered th eloss, yielding four runs on six hits over three innings. Five relievers followed George to the mound â among them, only Jim Harrsion worked a perfect inning.
The RailCats, now 0-2 in the pre-season, play their final exhibition game Tuesday at Silver Cross Field in Joliet. Game Time is 6 p.m.
