Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY – The Gary SouthShore RailCats (Northern League) have signed right-handed pitcher Todd George to a 2003 contract, the team announced today.

George was acquired April 2 in a trade with Mid-Missouri of the Frontier League, for left-handed pitcher Justin Stine.

George, 24, went 7-6, 4.07 ERA in 16 starts with Canton of the Frontier League in 2002 (The Canton franchise has moved to Mid-Missouri during the off-season). The right-hander walked just 25 batters while striking out 65 in 101 and 2/3 innings of work.

George played collegially at Oklahoma Baptist University (NAIA) in his native Oklahoma City, graduating this past December with a B.A. in recreational administration. IN 2001, George went 7-4 for the OBU Bison with a team-best 3.21 ERA (17 games, 12 starts, 4 complete games, 2 shutouts, 81 innings, 64 strikeouts). George was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Montreal Expos in June 2001, but made just 16 appearances for four clubs in the Expos' chain before being released during spring training 2002, and subsequently signed by Canton.

The Gary SouthShore RailCats are the new, professional minor league baseball team serving northwest Indiana and Chicago's south suburbs. The RailCats' 90-game Northern League schedule includes 45 home games at RailCats Stadium, a charming, state-of-the-art ballpark, conveniently located next to the Indiana toll road, with easy access from I-65, 80/94 and the Chicago Skyway.
