
RedHawks Add Slugger, Lefty to Roster

FARGO, N.D. â The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks have signed veteran 1B Toby Rumfield and LHP Curtus Moak to contracts, the Northern League club announced today. Both players will be in Fargo when the RedHawks open training camp on May 9.
Rumfield, 30, has spent the past four seasons at the Triple-A level, including last season with the Calgary Cannons and the Memphis Redbirds. Between the two stops, Rumfield batted .278 with eight doubles, three home runs, 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored in 69 games. He had averaged 18 home runs a season his first three years in Triple-A.
Rumfield was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Reds organization in the second round of the 1991 draft out of Belton (Texas) High School. He spent seven years in the Reds organization, and led the Carolina League (A) in home runs in 1994, when he clubbed 29 for the Winston-Salem Warthogs.
Moak, 24, comes to the RedHawks after spending two seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization. In 2002, he was 3-4 with a 3.65 ERA and a save with the Dayton (Ohio) Dragons of the Midwest League (A). In 49.1 innings pitched, Moak allowed 24 runs (20 earned) on 46 hits while striking out 33 batters and walking 23. He began his career with the Billings (Mont.) Mustangs of the Pioneer League (R) in 2001 after being drafted by the Reds in the 25th round of that years draft. Moak played college baseball at the University of Cincinnati.
