
RailCats Shut out Blasters for Second Straight Game in 10-0 Win

GARY, IN- The pitching staff of the Gary SouthShore RailCats (51-47) combined to hold the Joplin Blasters (35-63) scoreless for the second straight night on the way to a 10-0 blowout win.
The victory keeps the RailCats in contention for the Central Division title with two games left. They will need help to make the playoffs, though. The division-leading Sioux City X's need to lose their last two games and the RailCats need to win-out to win the division.
Taylor Black and the RailCats' pitchers have proven their dominance over the Blasters. Black earned the win after tossing five shutout innings. He gave up five hits and walked three batters. Lars Ligouri, Conrad Wozniak and Carlos Pinales combined to throw four innings of scoreless relief.
The RailCats offense contributed with 18 hits including two doubles to score double-digit runs.
The bats started working in the second inning. Alex Crosby singled with one out in the frame. After a strikeout, EJ Devarie singled and John Holland got a base hit to load the bags with RailCats. Jarred Mederos hit a single to center field that scored one run but Devarie was thrown out at the plate.
Gary SouthShore continued the offense in the third. They scored two runs on three hits, including a double by Chase Harris to start the inning. Tony Cheky and Crosby recorded RBIs.
A couple more crossed the plate in the fourth. The RailCats compiled four straight singles to start the inning including RBIs from Jarred Mederos and Harris.
The blowout was on after the fifth inning. Crosby and Jose Gonzalez each singled to chase starting pitcher Mario Morales from the game. Then, Harris and Reggie Wilson provided the clutch hits to drive home three runs and make the score 8-0.
The offense was dormant for the next two frames before resurfacing for two more runs in the eighth. Harris singled and moved to second on a passed ball. Cheky doubled home Harris to bring up Crosby. The Cats' first baseman looped a base hit to left field to bring in the final run of the game.
In the end, every RailCat recorded a hit and four batters had multi-RBI games. Harris was especially impressive, going 4-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. US Steel Yard was a gorgeous venue for baseball with the first pitch temperature at 73 degrees. 3,949 fans watched a two hour and 38 minute game.
The RailCats have two games left in the regular season and tomorrow's first pitch is at 2:10 PM. Coverage begins at 1:45 PM on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com.
