
RailCats Roll Late to a 7-1 Win over Wichita

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats got a huge triple from Cody Bishop in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and go on to a 7-1 win over the Wichita Wingnuts in the third game of a four game series Saturday night at US Steel Yard.
The RailCats blew it open in the sixth getting a leadoff single from Derek Smith off of Wingnuts starter Alan Williams (1-1). Jeremey Hamilton hit a ground ball to second that second baseman Jake Kahaulelio tried to turn into a double play but made a bad throw at second that put two aboard sending Smith to third. Justin Gominsky would bunt and move Hamilton to second for out number one. Zac Mitchell walked to load the bases for Bishop. Bishop launched a bases clearing triple to right center to wipe the bases clean and give the RailCats a 4-1 lead. The Wingnuts brought in Matt Robertson to face Danny Pulfer who hit a sac fly to right to score Bishop to make it 5-1 RailCats.
The Cats added two more in the seventh picking up a single from Josh Romanski and Ryan Babineau reaching on an error by Wichita short stop Ryan Khoury to put runners at first and second. Justin Gominsky laid down a sac bunt to move the runners up for Zac Mitchell who drove both insurance runs home with a single to right to off of Robertson to make it 7-1 RailCats.
The Winguts jumped out in front early in the second with an RBI from Mike Hernandez to make it 1-0 Wichita. The RailCats followed in the bottom of the second with a Zac Mitchell RBI single to tie it at one. The game stayed that way until the sixth with Morgan Coombs locking in a keeping the Wingnuts off the score board. Coombs went 6.2 IP scattering seven hits with five strike outs and one earned run to get the win. Chuck Fontana followed Coombs with 2.1 innings of work to notch the save his first of the year.
The two teams wrap up the four game series with a 2:10pm start at US Steel Yard. RHP Dustin Crenshaw will go for the RailCats while RHP Jon Klink will get the nod for Wichita. The RailCats are now 5-4 and winners of two in a row while the Wingnuts drop to 6-4.
