RailCats Right-Hander Garret Holleran Back for 2009

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats have signed rookie right-handed pitcher Garret Holleran to a 2009 contract, the team announced today. Holleran made his professional debut last season with the RailCats.
Holleran, 24, joined the âCats in late June last season after completing his first year as a Student Assistant Coach at Wright State University. Holleran made 14 appearances (10 starts) during the last two months of the season, going 3-3 with a 5.50 ERA and striking out 27 batters in 55.2 innings. The 6'5" right-hander's best start of the season was actually his last, when he allowed four hits and one run in 7.0 innings August 30 at Schaumburg.
A native of Phoenix, Holleran pitched two seasons at Wright State (2006-07) and helped the Raiders to the 2006 NCAA Regionals. Holleran struck out 83 in 153.0 career innings after transferring from Central Arizona College.
Holleran becomes the third player and first pitcher to sign a 2009 contract with the RailCats. Mike Rohde - the reigning Northern League Rookie of the Year - and infielder Paul Bartolucci are also under contract.
