Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, Ind. - The RailCats could not come up with a late-inning rally for a third straight night, falling to the Laredo Lemurs 6-2 in Saturday night's series opener. The 'Cats are back to .500 on the season at 49-49.
The Lemurs took the lead in the second inning on Brian Peterson's two-out RBI double against RailCats starting pitcher Morgan Coombs. The RailCats quickly knotted it up on a run-scoring single by Chase Tucker in the bottom of the inning.
Laredo answered that run with another in the third, this one on an RBI double to left by Stephen Douglas. Then in the fourth, Stephen Pearson hit a two-run homer to right to give the Lemurs a 4-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, the RailCats got one back when Craig Maddox scored on a passed ball, cutting the lead in half 4-2.
The Lemurs came back with two in the top of the seventh. After reliever Estevan Uriegas struck out the first two batters of the inning, Douglas walked, Jimmy Mojica singled and Palmer Karr's single scored them both, giving Laredo the 6-2 lead.
Coombs (6-9) gave up four runs on six hits in five innings, walked three and struck out three. Ryan Sasaki (6-3) got the win for the Lemurs. He pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits. He walked one and punched out three RailCats batters.
