Laredo Lemurs News Release
Gary, IN - The Laredo Lemurs (53-45) come up with strong pitching and timely hitting to beat the Gary Southshore RailCats (49-49) 6-2 at the U.S. Steel Yard Saturday night in Gary, Indiana.
Once again the Lemurs pitching proves positive as the tonight's starter Ryan Sasaki (6-3) went five and a third, giving up two runs, on seven hits, with one walk, and three strikeouts. Sasaki, although giving up two runs, never really found himself in deep trouble until the sixth, when he allowed back-to-back hits with one out. So with runners on first and second, Sasaki threw a wild pitch that moved the runners up to second and third. That's when Lemurs manager Pete Incaviglia made the move to bring in Chaz Roe. Roe walked the first batter and threw a passed ball to the second batter to let a run come in, but after that he shut down the RailCats with only one run in the frame.
Edwin Walker would come in for the Lemurs in the following seventh and he pitched two, one, two, three innings for the Lemurs. Mike Benacka closed out the game with two walks, and a strikeout to lock down the win.
The Lemurs offense was scattered tonight as they put up six runs. Stephen Pearson had the loudest hit of the night as he blasted a two out bomb over the right field wall with Brian Peterson on base to make the score 4-1 Lemurs.
Stephen Douglas would contribute with two hits, in four at bats, with a run, and a RBI. Palmer Karr Jr. doubled to bring in two runs in the seventh to make a 6-2 game for the Lemurs. And Brian Peterson pitched in with a double, and single, a run, and a RBI.
With both the Lemurs and Airhogs winning tonight the Lemurs magic number is now one, so a combination of a Lemurs win or an Airhogs loss with result in the Lemurs clinching the American Association South division.
The Laredo Lemurs will now head to Gary, Indiana to wrap up the regular season in a three game series. Keep your eye open for Lemurs playoff information. You can get tickets at the Laredo Lemurs box office, online at www.laredolemurs.com, or by phone at 956-7LEMURS. All games at Uni-Trade Stadium are set for 7:30pm.
