
RailCats Fall to 0-2 in Loss to St. Paul 7-2

ST. PAUL, MN - The Gary South Shore RailCats dropped the second game of their four game series 7-2 to the St. Paul Saints Friday night in St. Paul. The Saints grabbed the lead in the home half of the first with back to back doubles the first by Joe Bonfe just staying fair down the left field line off of RailCats starter Dustin Crenshaw (ND). Evan Bigley followed with a carbon copy hit to score Bonfe and it was 1-0 Saints.
The Saints picked up an unearned run on the next batter when Henry Wrigley would ground out to second with RailCats short stop Miles Walding looking the runner Bigley back to second. On the throw to first Bigley broke for third and the RailCats looked to have him at third but the throw from first baseman Jeremy Hamilton was low and got away from Danny Pulfer into the Saints pen allowing Bigley to score easily to make it 2-0 on the error.
Crenshaw settled in a pitched five innings for the RailCats to keep the score at 2-0 through five. Crenshaw gave up eight hits and struck out four with one earned runs. The RailCats tied the came in the fifth off of Saint starter Rob Coe (0-1). Justin Gominsky worked a walk to lead off the inning then Jeremy Hamilton hammered a double to left center to score blank to cut the lead to 2-1. Miles Walding then hit a ball off the left field wall that scored Hamilton to even the game at two.
The Cats then threatened in the top of the sixth with the Drew Martinez and Justin Romanski both reaching on singles off of Coe. After Wally Backman hit into a fielders choice to force out Romanski at second to put runners at the corners with one out the RailCats could not get the go ahead run when Ryan Babineau struck out and Justin Gomisky grounded out to short.
The Saints did not wait to grab the lead in home half of the sixth when the Saints Willie Cabrera hit a solo home run off of kagen Hopkins to give the Saints tee 3-2 lead. St. Paul was not done when they added two more in the frame highlighted with a bases clearing double by Joe Bonfe to make it 5-2.
The RailCats pen was summoned again in the bottom of the seventh Stephen Brahney coming in for Gary. The Saints put it out of reach with one out Brandon Tripp singled and was brought home by Willie Cabrera who doubled Tripp home. With two outs Joey Becker singled to close out the scoring for the Saints.
The two teams meet for game three of the four game series with RHP Stephen Hiscock (0-0) going for the Railcats with RHP Nick Barnese (0-0) going for the Saints with first pitch at 7:05. Hear all the action on WEFM 95.9.
