Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
GARY, IN- The Gary SouthShore RailCats manufactured runs the 'RailCats Way' and beat the visiting Lincoln Saltdogs 10-2 at the US Steel Yard. The RailCats (18-16) pulled even with the Saltdogs (18-16) for a share of the Central Division lead.
The RailCats pelted 15 hits and swiped six bases on the way to the rout of the Dogs. The stolen bases, bunts for base hits, sacrifice flies, and timely hitting are all characteristics of the way Greg Tagert and the Cats want to win a game.
Gary SouthShore also received good pitching performances by a handful of hurlers. Manny Arciniega got the spot start and threw two scoreless innings. Lars Liguori then came in and threw 1.2 innings and allowed one run. Travis McGee, who earned the win, looked the best he has all year in throwing 3.1 scoreless innings. He struck out three and only surrendered one hit. Andy Roberts finished out the game with a strong two innings.
The RailCats had the benefit of seeing Saltdog starter Shairon Martis for the second time in one week. They jumped on the former big leaguer to the tune of nine hits and five runs in five innings. Relievers Ryan Davis and Freddy Flores also struggled against relentless RailCat hitting.
The scoring was spread out with the Cats putting at least one run on the board in every inning except the 4th. Six RailCats had a multi-hit day and three batters recorded multiple RBIs. Cameron Newell stole two bases, including the first steal of third base on the season.
The RailCats improved to 3-1 against the division rivals on the year, including three straight. The two teams are in a tie for first place in the Central Division and share a two game lead over Sioux City. The RailCats have won seven of their last ten games.
