January 27, 2018 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) - Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs News Release

MACON, GA - Phil Bronner scored on the power play to tie the game late in the third period but the Macon Mayhem struck back to retake the lead and defeat the Rail Yard Dawgs, 3-1, Friday night at the Macon Coliseum. Brad Barone made 32 saves on 34 shots in the losing effort for the Rail Yard Dawgs.

Trailing 1-0 with just over six minutes to play in the third period, Macon's Ryan Salkeld committed a boarding penalty sending Roanoke to its sixth power play of the evening. David Gandara put a shot on net that was blocked and bounced out toward Bronner on the back side. He muscled his way to the puck and rammed it past Charlie Finn, tying the game at one.

Macon cracked back within the minute. The Rail Yard Dawgs were called for a penalty just ten seconds after that and headed to their fifth penalty kill of the night. Barone made a pair of impressive saves off the Mayhem's initial flurry but they broke through when Zach Urban teed up Darren McCormick for a one-timer that he hammered home to put Macon back on top.

The Mayhem closed the door on Roanoke's comeback attempt in the final minute on a McCormick empty-netter that pushed it to 3-1. Macon got the game's first goal in the second period as Jimmy Soper poked home a rebound.

Barone stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced and Bronner's goal was his first in his past 11 games. The Rail Yard Dawgs fell to 10-18-3 in the loss while Macon improved to 18-8-5.
